Fordham University - Heating Plant

Highlights: Replacement of an aging steam heating plant with high-efficiency condensing boilers.

NZ Mechanical played a major role in overhauling the heating plant at Fordham University. The project replaced the aged steam boilers with (3) Cleaver-Brooks ClearFire-CE high-efficiency condensing boilers, rated at 6,000 MBH each (18,000 MBH total). Our scope included full mechanical piping for the boilers, nine pumps, and four heat exchangers.

Primary loop heating piping was installed locally within the boiler room, with distribution served through secondary loops. Working closely with our draftsman and using 3D modeling, we optimized equipment placement and piping routing to maximize space and accessibility. The result is a compact, efficient, and service-friendly mechanical room designed for long-term performance.

To meet the schedule, our team worked weekends and maintained an accelerated pace to deliver the project in approximately one month. The work was completed during the summer and our scope was turned over weeks ahead of heating season, allowing extra time for commissioning and final checks before the building transitioned back into full heating operation.
