One Lincoln Plaza - Cooling Tower Replacement
Highlights: Replacement of (6) rooftop cooling towers with all-new condenser water distribution including 20" mains. Major crane operation involving a crawler crane exceeding heights of 550’ in the heart of Lincoln Center.

At One Lincoln Plaza, NZ Mechanical was involved in a major rooftop cooling tower replacement under intense time constraints for a facility that relied on 24/7 condenser water use. The project featured the installation of (6) cells of BAC Series 3000 cooling towers, along with a complete replacement of the rooftop condenser water distribution system. The new installation featured 20” CWS/R mains, 16” equalizer piping, 12” and 10” distribution, a winter bypass arrangement for temperature control, and (2) centrifugal separator skids with 8” piping to continuously remove debris and improve long-term water quality. The upgraded cooling towers support a total of 7,892 GPM and approximately 3,422 tons of heat rejection.
NZ Mechanical fast-tracked the project from start to finish: two weeks of procurement and in-house prefabrication followed by a strictly sequenced rooftop rig and installation plan. The crane operation was a major undertaking, requiring mobilization and assembly of a crawler crane that, once erected, exceeded 550 feet. After the units were placed, our field team completed the rooftop distribution, final tie-ins, and restoration work to bring condenser water service back online within three weeks, delivering the upgraded system on schedule.
